05/31/2011

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons are pleased to announce the completion and release of the official Great Lakes Loons Smartphone App. The app is free to download and is available now in the Android app store.

The Loons Smartphone app will allow fans yet another way to stay connected with all the latest Loons news and happenings. Fans will be able to buy tickets, check out the Loons roster, track stats, browse upcoming promotions and much, much more...all from their Android phone.

"The Loons are very excited to present this free app to Loons fans. We're constantly looking for new, innovative ways to keep our fans informed of the latest news about the ballclub and the organization," Loons Vice President of Marketing and Entertainment, Chris Mundhenk, said. "The app will also act as a great resource for fans attending our games - with info on the ballpark, a game center feature with up-to-date stats and roster info, and more."

The Loons are one of only a handful of Minor League Baseball teams to have their own smart phone app. An app for the iPhone is currently in development and will be available in the near future in the iTunes store.

"CTG is excited to give Loons fans the ability to take the team on the road with them wherever they go," Scott Davis of Critical Technologies Group, LLC, said. Independent League Somerset Patriots launch app for mobile devices

05/27/2011

The Somerset Patriots now can join you at the grocery store or ride shotgun in your car on Route 78.

At least that kind of on-the-go availability is the grand vision behind the new Patriots App for iPhones, iPads and Android mobile devices, which was launched Friday afternoon prior to the team's game against the Road Warriors at TD Bank Ballpark.

"Mobiles devices are becoming extremely mainstream," senior vice president of marketing Dave Marek said. "Now, you have all the Somerset Patriots information you need right at your fingertips."

In addition to standard website information such as team news, a schedule, a roster, statistics and information on promotions and giveaways, the Patriots App affords fans the opportunity to purchase tickets and merchandise.

For those who are interested in following the on-field action, the app features live scoring and a weather link.

"It's more than just a continuation of the website," said Marek, who worked with Critical Technologies Group for three months on the development front. "It's a convenient collection of all the information that's out there."

The Patriots App — the first of its kind in the Atlantic League despite the tool's growing popularity among sports teams — can be downloaded for free and is available by visiting the App Store and searching "Somerset Patriots" on a mobile device.

It is the latest commitment to digital media made by the team, which also boasts a strong presence on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr — all of which are connected to the app.

R-Phils ... there's an app for that

05/22/2011

The remodeling and advancements just keep on coming with the Reading Phillies.

Want to check the latest team statistics or purchase tickets to see the $10 million of offseason renovations?

Well, now there's an app for that.

Last Monday, the R-Phils introduced free applications for Android and iPhone users, providing fans with on-the-go information and updates about the team, available straight to your smartphone.

"We've seen other teams have success with it, and we thought it was a good time for us," said Tommy Viola, public relations director for the R-Phils. "I think what we gave the fans is an easy and informative app to provide Reading Phillies information whenever they want it."

The app, created by Critical Technologies Group, which also designed the app for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, took about two months to develop. It's clean, organized and really easy to navigate.

I don't have a smartphone (let's hurry it up, iPhone 5) but I played around with the iPhone version of the R-Phils' app on a friend's phone. You can find all the statistics that would be found on the team's website, including the ability to sort between team leaders in each category.

Player profiles are found on the app, as well as the team schedule and a rolling news feed of anything published by the public relations department. During an R-Phils game, fans can even get a pitch-by-pitch update.

"The way we have it set up, you can pretty much access information and use it like you would be looking for information on our team website," Viola said. "It's going very well in the first week, and we're very pleased with it."

Also built into the app is the ability to purchase tickets and peruse the team store, while also purchasing merchandise - just like any fan would on the team website.

After its first day on the market, the app was listed in the Apple Store's Top 100 Downloads, and it's been there every day since, garnering over 100 downloads each day in the past week.

Perhaps the best part of the entire app - it's free. So instead of trying to navigate the team website using 3G, fans have a quick and easy way to find the important information regarding the R-Phils.

"We thought it was feasible for us to take on the cost of this app so the fans could have it," Viola said. "Now Reading fans have all the information on the go. If we could do it at no cost to the fans, that's great. We're proud of what we came up with, and that our fans can have it for free."
